This is Rev. Junius E. Gash, the Executive Minister of THE ACTIVE HAND Ministry, a 501 c 3 grassroots, community organizing, organization. TAHM is not a church but was created to empower the impoverished, marginalized, people by training leaders as community organizers within the Greater Richmond, the Tri City area and surrounding counties who shall promote unity, address common issues and seek to remedy community problems by getting people actively involved in solving their own spiritual, social and economical conditions.
Mission: to establish grassroots agencies in impoverished communities that shall act as a voice for the people; so that equality, justice and freedom of choice will unite them in a unified force for change without having to put out a national call for action.
Our Belief: the future of society shall be determined by the quality of leadership taught to our youth. THE ACTIVE HAND Ministry provides such leadership training through our “Choose Respect” program, utilizing Virginia Department of Health issued tools to help our young people, ages 11 to 24, to improve their quality of life in society and their families by teaching them how to choose a healthy verses unhealthy relationship during their teen dating years.

Here is what you will get:
Jamal and Tyreese “Reese” ages 14 and 15 were participants of this program. These two friends could not be more different. The youngest, Jamal, is hyper active full of energy and take life with a grain of salt. His friend Tyreese, “Reese” is studious and prefers to figure out equations. The only thing the two of them love more than shooting hoops or Basket Ball is girls. While working with the Choose Respect tools it was discovered that they had something else in common also, they both considered girls as objects who would enhance their definition of being a man. Unknowingly they had, overtime, developed a subtle abusive attitude towards the female gender. However, our program taught them that all people experience trouble in dating relationships because of misguided beliefs about gender equality. Today, both Jamal and Reese have a healthy respect for the opposite sex as well as people in general. Thanks to THE ACTIVE HAND Ministry's belief in teaching youth important leadership skills.
Training Facility: The Minority Youth Appreciation Society Center located at 1803 N. 28th Street, Richmond, Virginia 23223 has been recognized by Richmond Council Woman Cynthia Newbille as a necessary designated (OST) “out of school time” center in the near East End.
